Hello players,
As we shared in the 2026 Roadmap, we have been preparing a range of improvements this year to take the PUBG Console experience to the next level.
In this Dev Letter, we’d like to introduce the major console changes coming in upcoming updates.
PUBG’s unique gameplay has resonated with console players for years. But as the shooter genre continues to evolve, we believe PUBG Console must also take the next step and deliver an experience that meets global standards. This roadmap outlines our concrete plans for the changes and challenges ahead.
When PUBG Console transitioned to current-generation consoles in November 2025, our development team’s top priority was ensuring stable live service operations. Rather than introducing new features, we focused on building a reliable foundation for play on current-gen consoles. After a thorough validation process and continued stability improvements, we believe we are now ready to more actively leverage the capabilities of current-gen hardware to enhance the player experience.
To make PUBG’s unique gameplay feel more natural on console, we need to meet the standards of playability and convenience that players have come to expect from modern shooters. In-game visual quality, combat feel, out-game usability, and control scheme are all distinct areas, but together they shape the foundation of console gameplay. Strengthening that foundation will allow PUBG’s distinct appeal to reach even more players.
With this direction in mind, our future console improvements will not be limited to one-off or fragmented changes. Instead, we will pursue a step-by-step evolution across multiple areas.
In this Dev Letter, we’d like to walk you through the console updates we are preparing.
This July, two graphics modes will be introduced across all PUBG Console devices. Frame Rate Priority mode delivers smoother motion and faster response times, while Resolution Priority mode provides sharper image quality and a more stable visual experience. With this update, we aim to bring a choice that has become standard in console shooters to PUBG Console as well.
Players will be able to select the graphics mode that best suits their play environment and preferences.
The default setting will be Resolution Priority, while Frame Rate Priority can be enabled manually through the settings menu. Players using different graphics modes will still be able to play together in the same matches.

| Device | Frame Rate Priority | Resolution Priority |
|---|---|---|
Xbox Series S | 1080p / 120fps | 1440p / 60fps |
Xbox Series X | 1440p / 120fps | 2160p / 60fps |
PlayStation®5 | 1440p / 120fps | 1800p / 60fps |
PlayStation®5 Pro | 1800p / 120fps | 2160p / 60fps |
※ The resolutions above represent the maximum resolution supported by each graphics mode. All devices use dynamic resolution scaling. Frame Rate Priority mode is available only when using a display that supports 120Hz output.
※ On Xbox Series S, both graphics modes offer higher frame rates than before.
※ Depending on your display environment, you may need to disable HDR for the Frame Rate Priority option to appear.

Alongside the graphics mode update, out-game loading speeds will also be improved.
On PUBG Console, players go through several menus after logging in before entering a match. We consider the journey from login to match entry an important part of the overall play experience. Faster, smoother navigation between menus makes it easier for players to get into matches. For this update, we first focused on frequently used menus with longer loading times. By optimizing bottlenecks based on each menu’s characteristics, we aimed to provide a more seamless experience.
With this update, loading times will be reduced in key menus, and the initial delays players experience should feel noticeably shorter.
Our work on the overall out-game experience does not end with this update. We will continue optimizing these areas to make the experience lighter and more convenient.

In an upcoming update, we plan to adjust hit detection specifically for console.
We’ll expand and fine-tune hitboxes to help ensure that shots players reasonably expect to land are registered as hits, while preserving the distinct feel of PUBG Console gameplay.
This update is limited to console and will not affect PC. We are also not making any weapon balance changes, such as adjustments to damage, rate of fire, or recoil.

As PUBG has evolved over the years with new features and content, our control scheme has also become
increasingly complex. To offer a more intuitive and consistent control experience, we are introducing a new default scheme.
Existing controller presets will remain available, allowing players who are accustomed to the current setup to continue playing as before.
The new default scheme assigns clear roles to each hand: the left for controlling movement and view, and the right for actions and attacks. Based on this common foundation, we are evaluating two different approaches.
The first approach reduces exceptions across the control scheme and provides consistent rules.
This approach minimizes exceptions so players can learn and remember the controls more easily.
The second approach is tailored to PUBG Console with the goal of making the early learning experience more accessible.
This approach focuses on making the core actions that new PUBG players need to learn easier to perform.
We are currently considering offering both options, with one becoming the new default and the other available as an alternate controller preset.
What we’ve shared today marks the first step in our journey to improve the PUBG Console experience. The graphics mode update and out-game loading speed improvements will arrive first with Update 42.2 this July, while the hit detection adjustments for console and control scheme improvements will be rolled out sequentially after thorough validation.
Our work to improve the console experience will not stop with this update. There are still areas we need to review and refine, and the development team will continue making meaningful improvements across each area, step by step.
Player feedback shared through various channels will serve as our most important guide as we continue improving the PUBG Console experience. We’ll continue refining PUBG’s unique gameplay to deliver an even more polished experience on console.
We’ll see you in the next Dev Letter.
