WEBTOON and PUBG: Battlegrounds are teaming up to release three brand-new comics based on the popular battle-royale franchise by KRAFTON.
WEBTOON, the world's largest digital comics platform, is teaming up with the popular battle-royale video game by KRAFTON, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, to deliver three new genre-spanning comic series.
According to WEBTOON, the new comics, titled The Retreats, Night of Silence and 100, will be available to English readers exclusively on WEBTOON on Jan. 29, 2022. These stories will take place in a dystopian PUBG Universe.
"As the universe of PUBG expands, we want to ensure that we are providing a continuous stream of stories that create a comprehensive entertainment experience that isn't limited to just our games," PUBG Universe VP and Head Zion Lee said. The Retreats takes place in a distant future where people live in a utopian society known as the Retreats, where prosperity exists at the cost of the disenfranchised lower class living in the slums of Brine. To escape a life of servitude, Brine citizens have the opportunity to fight in the Battlegrounds for a chance of becoming a Retreats citizen. This chance at upward mobility seems impossible, especially for John Canty, a Brine citizen who has lost loved ones to the Battlegrounds. Things change, however, when he encounters a boy in the Retreats named Edward, who carries a striking resemblance to his son Gable.
Night of Silence follows Leah, who returns to her hometown only to discover her father's dead body. Though it's deemed a suicide by authorities, the evidence suggests otherwise.
Finally, 100 follows Hoyoung Cheon, who must survive a 100-participant battle-royale game called the Battlegrounds. Fitted with a frying pan and a firearm, Hoyoung must search for an assemblyman who was captured while looking into the game and is now an involuntary participant.
PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is a popular battle-royale video game that sets players in a large-scale battleground setting, forcing them to survive under high stakes and be the last one standing. The new comics are a mixture of thrill, horror and action to reflect the experience of playing the game.
Retreats, Night of Silence and 100 will be available on Jan. 29, 2022. on WEBTOON in the U.S., with the first three issues available for free on the platform.
